“A goal is a dream with a deadline”_ _
Have you ever sat down and seriously thought about where your true passion lies? What you’re really amazing at? Have you ever considered how you want to envision yourself when you look back during the latter half of your life? Is it just an accumulation of wealth, or a ding in the universe? What is it that’s stopping you from pursuing what you truly love?
Sadly, most people accept what they should be doing rather than what they want to be doing. We concentrate our efforts to talents we never had to begin with, and continue careers that just aren’t the right fit. Our lives are full of distractions and difficult decisions and many of us respond by taking whatever comes our way.
In his book, Never Eat Alone, Keith Ferrazzi defines what he calls “the blue flame”. It is where passion meets ability. We all have our strengths, weaknesses, loves and insecurities, but it’s up to us to figure out where our talents match our desires. According to Keith, when that blue flame is ignited within a person, it is a powerful force in getting you where you want to go. Whether you want to be an athlete, musician or a programmer, the blue flame helps determine your purpose, your ding in the universe.
Maybe you’re not meant to be an investment banker or an engineer. Who knows, you may be the next Wayne Gretzky. But you’ll never know unless you try to discover and ignite your blue flame.
