One of the best parts of being part of the Bitmaker Labs team is to catch up with our alumni. We're seeing them take positions at innovative companies, creating exciting new startups and doing things we never expected. We couldn't be more proud of the news we're hearing about Ashley Beattie, a graduate of our first cohort.
If you recognize the name, it may be because we've mentioned him on our blog before. Ashley- a naval officer in the Canadian Forces - sought to develop his skills in Ruby on Rails, and charged through the program to become a solid full-stack developer. Two weeks after completing the program he participated in AngelHackTO, and built the winning app. Today, Ashley is co-founder of a fast growing Toronto-based startup called Kiwi Wearable Tech, focusing on building and developing the next generation of wearable computer and sensor technology.
Kiwi was awarded "Best Vertical Disrupter" at the TechCrunch Disrupt Hackathon this year. You can see Ashley and fellow co-founder Zaki Patel demoing their work here. Ashley will be at Bitmaker Labs this week, featured in our next Think Thursday event to talk about getting from Bitmaker to TechCrunch and the future of Kiwi. You can attend the talk by registering here.
